WHAT ARE POWDER BROWS?

Powder brows are a cosmetic tattoo technique that creates soft, pixelated shading throughout the eyebrows.

The finished result can range from extremely natural to more defined, depending on your preferences and the technique used.

Unlike traditional eyebrow makeup, powder brows are designed to provide longer-lasting definition that gradually softens over time.

Powder brows may be a great option if you:

  • Want fuller-looking, more defined eyebrows
  • Spend time filling in your brows every morning
  • Have sparse or uneven brow hair
  • Prefer a soft makeup-like finish
  • Have skin characteristics that may be less suited to microblading
  • Want to simplify your everyday beauty routine

Our goal is to create beautiful brows that complement your natural features—not give every client the same eyebrow shape.

What Is Microblading?

Microblading is a permanent makeup technique that uses a specialized manual tool to create individual hair-like strokes.

These strokes are designed to imitate the appearance of natural eyebrow hairs.

Microblading may be appropriate for certain skin types and clients who want a hair-stroke effect.

However, not every client is an ideal candidate.

Skin type, previous permanent makeup, age-related skin changes, and individual healing characteristics all influence whether microblading is the right choice.

That's why we evaluate your skin before recommending a technique.

Powder Brows vs. Microblading: Which Is Better?

One of the most common questions we hear is:

“Should I get powder brows or microblading?”

The answer depends on your skin and the appearance you're hoping to achieve.

Powder Brows

Create soft shading and definition using a cosmetic tattoo machine. They can be customized from subtle to more makeup-like.

Microblading

Creates individual hair-like strokes using a manual tool. It may be suitable for selected clients seeking a hair-stroke appearance.

Combination Brows

Combine hair-like strokes with shading to create a fuller-looking brow with added dimension.

Ombre Brows

Use a shading approach with a softer front and gradually more defined tail.

At Pretty House, we don't believe in choosing a technique simply because it's trending.

We believe in choosing what's appropriate for your skin.

Permanent Brows for Mature Skin

If you're in your 40s, 50s, 60s, or beyond, permanent makeup can be a beautiful way to restore the appearance of brow definition.

As we age, eyebrows may become lighter, thinner, or more sparse.

Skin characteristics can also change, making technique selection especially important.

Our approach to permanent makeup for mature skin emphasizes thoughtful design, appropriate pigment selection, and results that complement your features.

We want you to look like yourself—just a little more polished.

Why Experience and Color Theory Matter

Permanent makeup isn't simply choosing a brown pigment and tattooing eyebrows.

Beautiful healed results require an understanding of skin, pigment, technique, saturation, and color theory.

Over time, permanent makeup pigment can soften or change in appearance.

That's why pigment selection and thoughtful implantation are important.

With more than a decade of PMU experience and extensive advanced education, including specialized color theory training, we focus on creating results with long-term appearance in mind.

Fresh brows are beautiful. Healed brows tell the real story.

What to Expect During Your Brow Appointment

Step 1: Consultation

We begin by discussing your goals, natural brow hair, skin characteristics, and any previous permanent makeup.

Step 2: Brow Mapping

Your brows are designed around your individual facial structure and desired appearance.

We review the proposed shape before proceeding.

Step 3: Pigment Selection

We select pigment with consideration for your skin characteristics, natural coloring, and desired healed result.

Step 4: Your Permanent Makeup Procedure

Your artist performs the selected technique using professional cosmetic tattoo equipment and appropriate infection-control practices.

Step 5: Healing and Aftercare

You'll receive aftercare instructions and guidance about what to expect as your brows heal.

An additional appointment may be recommended depending on your treatment plan and healed results.

How Long Do Powder Brows Last?

Powder brows are a form of cosmetic tattooing.

Although the visible result can gradually soften or fade, pigment may remain in the skin for many years.

Longevity varies based on skin type, sun exposure, skincare products, pigment characteristics, technique, and individual healing.

Maintenance appointments may be appropriate over time, but we don't recommend adding more pigment simply because a certain number of months has passed.

Do Powder Brows Hurt?

Discomfort varies from person to person.

Many clients describe the procedure as tolerable, although individual sensitivity differs.

During your consultation, we'll discuss the process, comfort measures, and any relevant contraindications.

Can You Cover Old Microblading?

Sometimes—but not always.

Previous permanent makeup must be evaluated before new pigment is added.

If existing pigment is too dark, saturated, poorly positioned, or discolored, color correction, fading, or removal may be recommended before additional permanent makeup.

Our priority is creating a responsible long-term treatment plan rather than simply covering old work.

Powder Brows & Microblading Pricing

Permanent eyebrow services starting at $450.

Final pricing depends on the selected service, whether you have previous permanent makeup, and the treatment plan.

Please review our current booking menu for complete pricing and appointment details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are powder brows the same as microblading?

No. Powder brows use machine shading to create soft definition, while microblading uses a manual tool to create hair-like strokes. Both are forms of permanent makeup.

Do powder brows look natural?

They can. Powder brows can be customized to create a soft, subtle appearance rather than a heavily filled-in look.

Are powder brows better for oily skin?

For some clients with oily skin, machine shading may produce a more predictable healed appearance than microblading. Individual skin assessment is important.

Can I get permanent brows if I barely have eyebrow hair?

In many cases, yes. Permanent makeup can create the appearance of fuller brows even when natural hair is sparse. Suitability depends on your skin and other factors.

How long does it take for powder brows to heal?

The surface healing process often takes approximately one to two weeks, while the appearance continues settling over several additional weeks. Your artist will explain when the result can be properly evaluated.

Will I need a touch-up?

Some clients benefit from a follow-up appointment after healing. Long-term maintenance depends on how your pigment ages and whether additional work is appropriate.

Can I get permanent makeup if I've had microblading before?

Possibly. Previous pigment must be evaluated for color, saturation, shape, and suitability before new work is performed.
